First Night of Hanukkah

Take these longest nights,
like a staircase to the starlit sky,
like a winding path
towards that small seed of light,
the coming sun,
the morning breaking into
a remembering…
Falling into velvet slumber,
of your true self
the one who greets you
with the waking day,
as you travel on
this long dark road home,
filled with light…

Kindling the Hanukkah lights Milton,
just as you taught me...
I can still hear the rumble of your dear voice...

Lea...what a lovely Menorah and yes a comforting tradition to sit in the light and remember.

This is so beautiful Lea.
I was trying to choose a favorite line,
but it can't be done...the poem is so beautifully written
that I cannot dare remove one phrase.

And the little aside to Milton...
really touched my heart.
