Santa Rosa Labyrinth ~ Sixteen

Today,
March 15th, 2013
the Santa Rosa Labyrinth
is sixteen years old...
Sixteen years
since the morning that this design
breathed through my curious heart
and fingertips...

Do you
remember turning
sixteen?
I do...
It was a time of innocence
and transition in my life,
realizing that I was no longer a child,
but with no understanding
of what it would mean to be an adult...

Mystery
is what I see today,
around this next corner unseen...
and I hope for many more twists and turns
in this beautiful labyrinth of life...

Cherry Snow

One strand
of cherry snow
dances amidst the rain
and clouds that shift and change
as rapidly as the beat of my heart…
One strand,
this fierce Spring whisper
of love...

haiku my heart ~ One Billion Women Rising

One billion women,
dancing, breaking all the chains…
You. Be this rising…

*****

One Billion Rising, is an initiative against violence against women
in the world on February 14th
in over 190 countries.

From the One Billion Women Rising Website: On V-Day’s 15th Anniversary, 14 February 2013, we are inviting ONE BILLION women and those who love them to WALK OUT, DANCE, RISE UP, and DEMAND an end to this violence. ONE BILLION RISING will move the earth, activating women and men across every country. V-Day wants the world to see our collective strength, our numbers, our solidarity across borders.

Click HERE to find an event near you.

I will be dancing in the morning with friends and neighbors in my labyrinth, and then in the afternoon at a public event in Santa Rosa, CA from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.
Please join us where ever you are in any way that you want,
even if it is alone in your living room, for truly...
you will not be dancing alone...

haiku my heart ~ Marking Time

Shadows, standing long,
moving time throughout the day…
My heart rooted, here…

*****

This beautiful seven-circuit Santa Rosa Labyrinth was completed in the Fall of 2010. Because of a tight budget, we used weed cloth covered in bark and Noyo River stone to delinate the lines of this design at the edge of Knox Presbyterian Church's community garden that feeds many families and people in our city of Santa Rosa, California.

My dear friend Michael Mugridge of Burbank Rentals saw how over time the labyrinth was needing more care. Bark breaks down into earth and weeds sprout from the top layer.

He has taken over stewardship of this labyrinth and hired the services of Cisco & F.B.Landscape to replace the bark with decomposed granite. There is stlll much more work to be done, but these photos will show you some of the progress made so far. Soon, the children from the church's school and daycare will be able to run splinter free in this labyrinth... and a solid path will emerge for the adults who go to enjoy this lovely space...
